Leadership Transition at Salvatore Ferragamo: CEO Marco Gobbetti to Depart
Salvatore Ferragamo S.p.A. has announced that CEO Marco Gobbetti will depart from the company effective March 6, following a mutual agreement to terminate his employment and directorship relationships. Gobbetti has served as the chief executive since January 2022 after transitioning from Burberry, where he held the same role.
During his tenure at Ferragamo, Gobbetti focused on initiatives aimed at brand renewal, product innovation, and organizational restructuring. These efforts were part of a broader strategy to enhance Ferragamo’s positioning in the competitive luxury market. Gobbetti’s previous experiences include leadership roles at Moschino and within LVMH, where he was CEO of Givenchy and later Celine, collaborating with designers such as Riccardo Tisci and Phoebe Philo.
Despite these changes, Ferragamo reported a decrease in revenue by 10.5 percent in 2024, with significant declines noted in its wholesale operations and the Asia-Pacific market. The downturn reflects the broader challenges facing the global luxury sector, marked by fluctuating economic conditions and changing consumer preferences.
Leonardo Ferragamo, the company’s chairman, acknowledged Gobbetti’s efforts and his role in laying a foundation for the brand’s future strategic initiatives. As Ferragamo prepares for this leadership transition, the focus will likely shift towards sustaining its market position and navigating the evolving luxury landscape.
The departure marks an impoirtant moment for Ferragamo as it seeks new leadership to build on the groundwork laid by Gobbetti and steer the brand through the ongoing complexities of the luxury market.
